Excerpt from the prospect section in this week’s Nature (Nature 453, 421; by G. Russo, an editor of Nature jobs):

The number of academic positions has fallen in many countries, whether interdisciplinary or otherwise, yet unemployment for scientists is at an all-time low.

Argh… I’ve had several interviews for post-doc positions over the last months, not a single one leading to hiring… (not speaking of jobs in industry or the falling number of academic positions). How could it be that we are filling in the all-time low numbers?
