Did you know the difference between pollenizers and pollinators? I learned it on wikipedia today.
The pollinator is the animal, usually an insect, that brought up the pollen to a flower. The pollenizer is the plant that produced the pollen that was carried over. In self-compatible species, plants are thus self-pollenizers.
Okay, I understand this may be a crucial difference to make (though I’ve only heard or read about sires until this so far), but I realize the French language doesn’t seem to care about this (“pollinator” both refer to pollen-carrier or pollen-producer). Or maybe is it that this kind of discussion is far too rare?
