“The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.” (Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) So, what was the thing that could not possibly go wrong?
(And did you googlesearch every word one by one, or did you have a program to do that? I wonder if doing the same with Google Images would give a nice rebus.)
Given time constraints and few words were repeated along, I did it manually…
The thing that could not go possibly wrong is that I got a post-doc position, but it had to be more openly announced when the P.I. moved to another university. I was told all over that I should not worry about the position since I was the first candidate anyway blablibla… So when I was refused the post-doc a “bit later” it turns a “lot bitter”. Of course, I did not apply to many other positions earlier because I already got something. Turns out that I am way behind the deadlines for these other positions now.
Ouch, that sucks. :-( I’m very sorry to hear that: I know well how much it hurts to face a broken promise (that’s worse than nothing in the first place). Do you have some sort of fallback plan? Is there a possibility of finding a position at midterm?
Huhum… Actually, this was already a fallback plan… I applied to other positions lately but if something has to happen, it must happen before my visa expires (i.e. very soon), else we would have to move back to France anyway and this is administratively speaking a lot more complex after that.
