Here’s one of the species I have not identified yet, that I’ve met last sunday during my second BioBlitz… If anybody can help with identification of this snake (below), it would helpme fill my Blitz datasheet… :-)

Hi! Jeremy just posted a note that you’re looking for an ID for the above snake. Although the photo (and it’s larger view) don’t show the scales well enough to see if they are smooth or keeled, I’d have to say they look smooth and my best guess is that it’s a Black Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta) if they are found in your range — I’m not sure where you are, but I’m guessing somewhere in the northeast. We have them here in Ontario. Here’s a link to a photo that I took of one in 2003.

I concur with Bev’s ID. It’s a Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta). You don’t need the ssp. to fill in your datasheet.
